What Does Climate Justice Require?
50% Reduction by 2030. HYBRID Earth Day program with Prof. Roger S. Gottlieb!
Time & Location
Apr 25, 2023, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
East Lansing, 1120 S Harrison Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823, USA
About the event
The most recent International Panel on Climate Change report tells us the human family needs to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% in just 81 months. At the 2015 Paris Agreement all nations committed to reduce their releases of greenhouse gases (ghg’s). Yet globally in 2022 we increased those emissions, thus making the cuts needed now, even more dramatic. Since the developed world is largely responsible for the release of those excessive ghg’s, how do we assess the responsibilities and possibilities to meet the reduction targets in a just and fair way?
GL-UNA's program will feature Prof. Roger S. Gottlieb, a leading philosopher looking at environment and spiritual and moral concerns. He is the author or editor of twenty-one books, most recently Morality and the Environmental Crisis, and more than 150 articles. Dr. Gottlieb will help us reflect on what does climate justice require of us.
The event is a hybrid presentation. In-person presentation at the University United Methodist Church in East Lansing as well as on Zoom, Dr. Gottlieb will Zoom from his home in Boston, Massachusetts.
